Listed below are brief summaries of the background and business experience of the Board of Directors and Executive Officers of Gateway Bank of Pennsylvania. Lee W. Baierl, Director, is President of Baierl Automotive, with primary operations in multiple automobile dealerships in the North Hills. Baierl Automotive employs over 400 people with sales in excess of $275,000,000. With over 25 years experience in the automotive industry, he began his career in 1981. Mr. Baierl currently serves on the Metropolitan Pittsburgh YMCA Board, the Greater Pittsburgh Chevy Dealers Advertising Board, and is President of the Pittsburgh Acura Dealers Advertising Board. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.B.A. also from the University of Pittsburgh and is a graduate of the General Motors Management Academy.
has accumulated over three decades of banking knowledge and experience. He began his banking career with Equibank in finance. Later, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer and subsequently, President & CEO of First National Bank of Washington, PA. When First National merged with Integra, he held positions in senior management as Senior Vice President of Bank Support and later becoming an Area President. Mr. Burt has held numerous Board positions and is currently on the Boards of Canonsburg Hospital, Washington County Authority, SynergIT and Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers. He holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
Leonard M. Carroll, Director Emeritus, is Managing Director and Secretary of Seneca Capital Management, Inc., a private equity fund manager (Sewickley, PA). He began his career with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and then became CFO and a Director of United Data Services, Inc. During his 30 plus years in the commercial banking arena, he has served as CEO, President, CFO and a Director of First Seneca Bank and as Vice Chairman of Pennbancorp. When Pennbancorp later merged into what became Integra Financial Corporation, Mr. Carroll served as President, COO and a Director of Integra until its merger into National City Corporation. Mr. Carroll is currently a Director of Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation and serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee of Westminster College and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees.Mr. Carroll is a former Director and Audit Committee Chairman of Quaker State Corporation. He holds a B.S. in accounting and a M.B.A. from Gannon University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Gayland B. Cook, Director, is Managing Director and President of Seneca Capital Management, Inc., a private equity fund manager (Sewickley, PA). For 22 years, he was very active in the banking industry in Western Pennsylvania. He began his career as a Management Trainee with Keystone Bank (Punxsutawney, PA) and eventually served as its President and CEO. He served as President and CEO of Integra Bank of Pittsburgh and its predecessor, Union National Bank, later becoming President of Integra's Pittsburgh Community Bank. Mr. Cook is currently a Director of Cook Properties, Inc., a privately held natural resource management company, and Munroe Incorporated, and also serves as a Trustee of Allegheny College, where he chairs its Finance and Budget Committee. Mr. Cook is a Director and past Chairman of Family House. He holds a B.S. in economics from Allegheny College and is a graduate of the School of Bank Marketing at the University of Maryland, and of the National School of Bank Investment at the University of Illinois.
Alan R. Guttman, Director, is CEO of Guttman Oil Company (Belle Vernon, PA), a multi-state marketer of refined petroleum products, and is also an officer and shareholder of other family-owned companies including Guttman Realty Company. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Monongahela Valley Hospital, Inc., Mon Vale Health Resources, Inc., the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, and the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative. Mr. Guttman is a former Director of First National Bank & Trust Company and Integra Bank. Mr. Guttman holds a B.S. in finance from Penn State University and a J.D. from George Washington University.
Thomas S. Henderson, Director, is the former President of Henderson Investment Corporation. He has also served as Vice President of Henderson Gear Corporation and Vice President of Manufacturing for Baker Mine Service. Mr. Henderson is a past Director of Wesley Institute and was the founder and a past Chairman and Director of Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair. He holds a B.A. in English from Denison University.
Robert S. Kerr, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Lending Officer. Mr. Kerr was employed as Senior Vice President, Business Banking with PNC Bank, where he was responsible for sales, service and commercial lending activities for companies in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Mr. Kerr began his career as a Management Trainee with his former bank and has served in a variety of management positions within that organization during the past two decades.
Mr. Kerr holds a PA Insurance License, has been designated as a Certified Commercial Lender, and has received a variety of management and sales performance awards. He serves on the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations and participates in a number of civic programs and activities. He holds a B.S. in management and marketing from Kansas State University and has completed substantial continuing education courses in the areas of management, finance, credit analysis, sales training, leadership and customer satisfaction.
Charles J. LaBelle, Director, has accumulated over 36 years of experience in the automotive industry and is currently the General Manager - Automotive Operations for Falconi Enterprises (Washington, PA). In the past, he has served in a variety of management positions for General Motors Corporation, Nissan Motor Corporation, USA, Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Corporation and Graham Automotive Group. Mr. LaBelle is currently a Director of Canonsburg General Hospital. He holds a B.A., magna cum laude, in mathematics and psychology from Washington and Jefferson College (Washington, PA) and an M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University's Graduate School of Industrial Administration.
F. James McCarl, Chairman of the Board, is the President of the McCarl Group, LLC, a business investment consulting firm. He served as President and CEO of McCarl's Inc. until 2002, one of the nation's top 50 mechanical contracting companies. After joining the company in 1968, he served in a variety of management positions and, in 1999, the company was purchased by PPL Corporation. Mr. McCarl is currently a Director of New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Smith Brothers Dairy, ABG Capital, Pitt Alumni Association President, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a member of the Board of Visitor's of the University of Pittsburgh's College of General Studies and Katz Graduate School of Business. Previously, Mr. McCarl served on the Business Advisory Counsel of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and Board of Highmark Blue Shield. He holds a B.A. in general studies from the University of Pittsburgh (with initial undergraduate work completed at the University of Virginia) and is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Smaller Company Management Program.
Frank J. Palermo, Jr., Director, is a Certified Public Accountant and a shareholder in Palermo/Kissinger & Associates, P.C., a public accounting firm he founded in 1983. Prior to starting his own firm, he served as a staff accountant with Kopperman & Wolf and Sheppard & Company and also held the position of Vice President and Controller with First National Bank & Trust Company. Mr. Palermo is currently a Director of theBradley Center. He holds a B.S./B.A. in accounting from John Carroll University.
Nancy L. Rackoff, Director, is a partner with the law firm of Tener, Van Kirk, Wolf & Moore, P.C., where her practice focuses on estate planning and administration. She is a member of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. Ms. Rackoff was formerly a partner in the law firm of Witt and Rackoff and served as Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer with Pittsburgh National Bank. She is currently a Director of the UPMC Health System and Secretary of the Boards of Directors of Forward Housing Corporation (a HUD Project) and Magee-Women's Hospital, and also serves as a Trustee of the Carnegie Hero Commission. She is a past Chairperson of the Magee-Women's Health Foundation and received the Foundation's Volunteer Service Award. Ms. Rackoff holds both a B.A., summa cum laude, and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Randall L.C. Russell, Director, is Chairman and CEO of Ranbar Technology, Inc. and Ranbar Electrical Materials, Inc., which manufacture organic polymers used in the coatings and electrical industries. He is also part owner and Vice Chairman of Preservation Technologies, L.P., a firm that has developed a process for the deacidification and preservation of books. He was formerly Vice President and General Manager of Koppers Company, Inc., and has over 30 years of business experience in the chemical industry. Dr. Russell is the recipient of the 1997 Ernst & Young, LLP Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Dr. Russell is currently a Director of Preservation Technologies, LP, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Commonwealth Capital Group and serves on the President's Advisory Council of Slippery Rock University. He is a former Trustee for Allegheny University Medical Center and a former Director of Integra Bank/Pittsburgh (now National City Bank), Forbes Health System, McCarl's Inc., and the Pittsburgh Branch of the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank. Dr. Russell holds a B.A. in chemistry from Slippery Rock University and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh.
Patricia L. Siger, Director, is Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer of YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. Formerly, Ms. Siger was the Chief Development Officer of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, where she was responsible for annual fundraising, a capital campaign of $100 million and the supervision of the Volunteer Program within Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Prior to her work with Children's, she served as the Executive Director of Family House, Inc., a non-profit organization that serves as a "home away from home" for adult patients and families who must travel to Pittsburgh for treatment of life-threatening illnesses. Ms. Siger currently serves as a member of various non-profit Boards of Directors, particularly in the healthcare arena. She holds a B.A. from Duquesne University. Gretchen Snyder, Director, has been a real estate sales executive with Northwood Realty Services since 2003. Ms. Snyder is also a professional photographer. She is a graduate of the American Intercontinental University of London where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in visual communication and an M.B.A. in international business.
